Is Donovan McNabb Done in Philly?

Despite what anyone says or thinks about the Philadelphia Eagles they have arguably been one of the most successful teams in the NFL during the Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb era in Philly.  Not only is it impressive that Donovan McNabb and company have been able to consistently be one of the best teams in the NFC conference year in and year out, but the fact they have been able to be so successful and play in the toughest division in all of football in the NFC East division is even more impressive.

It is becoming more and more obvious with every passing season that the Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb combination in Philly is a winning combination for the Eagles, but they just can’t seem to get back to the Super Bowl and get that elusive Super Bowl title that will justify keeping both Reid and McNabb in the future.  I believe that head coach Andy Reid isn’t going anywhere, but every single offseason in the NFL, no matter how far McNabb has taken the Eagles in the postseason, the rumors start to circulate about where McNabb will land next season. During this past season the Philadelphia Eagles made two bold moves.  One, they extend the contract of Andy Reid, which was justifiable.  Two, they signed McNabb for at least the next two seasons, which was probably something McNabb demanded after the Eagles signed backup quarterback Michael Vick.

Reportedly, Donovan McNabb wasn’t against the signing of Michael Vick for the next two seasons as he believed that he would increase the Eagles chances of winning and make the offense that much more versatile.  Even though that does make sense, personally, I don’t believe a word of it and I guarantee the signing of Vick prompted McNabb to make some demands like signing an extension.

Honestly, I can’t say I blame Donovan McNabb for wanting some assurances moving forward with the Philadelphia Eagles as job security in the NFL is never guaranteed no matter what your contract might say.  This was a smart move by McNabb, but the fact is that he can still get traded and ever since the season ended for the Eagles recently with the loss the Dallas Cowboys, trade rumors have started to get around about one of the three quarterbacks in Philly being on their way out.  Obviously, the Eagles don’t need three quarterbacks, especially when all three of those quarterbacks have high trade value.

Even though the Eagles could be trading youngster Kevin Kolb instead of Donovan McNabb, you have to think that Philly is considering finally parting ways with the McNabb as he is not getting any younger.  Personally, I would stick with Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick at this point.  If they keep splitting time between these two quarterbacks with McNabb staying healthy and Vick getting back to form, the Eagles could be a very scary team on offense for at least the next two years.

The Eagles haven’t made any indication on their plans just yet, but Michael Vick has already said that he wants to be a starter in this league yet again which means that he will without doubt jump ship if any other team is willing to give him the starting job.  Vick has also said that he would like to stay in Philly, as the backup, if they will have them which means he wants to play for a winner.  No matter what the outcome is, I believe the Eagles will be getting rid of one of their three talented quarterbacks this offseason, but which one still remains a mystery.

Interesting.. never been a fan of the Eagles but even I can see this trade is big, and will greatly improve the Redskins they are just a piece of two from being a super bowl contender. It is just amazing to see the Eagles to trade within their division to a rival much less. crazy in my opinion, but we will see.
