Donovan McNabb plays well in first appearance under center for the Washington Redskins

No team has gone through more drastic changes during NFL offseason than the Washington Redskins. With a new head coach in Mike Shanahan and a new starting quarterback in Donovan McNabb, the Washington Redskins will take on an entirely new look this season and could very well be playoff bound for the first time since 2007.

Along with having six-time Pro bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb under center, the Washington Redskins will also have arguably one most talented backfield in the NFL with Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson and Willie Parker at the running back position.

As always, having three big name running backs never seems to work out in the regular season in one of these facts will almost certainly get cut before the regular season begins with Willie Parker being possibly the odd man out.

Needless to say, the Redskins offense is much improved and could quite possibly be a force to be reckoned with in the NFC Conference this season, but they will have their work cut out for them this year as they will have a tough schedule with the following games to look out for:

Dallas Cowboys (Week 1)

Houston Texans (Week 2)

@ Philadelphia Eagles (Week 4, first game for McNabb back in Philly)

Green Bay Packers (Week 5)

Indianapolis Colts (Week 6)

Philadelphia Eagles (Week 10)

@ Tennessee Titans (Week 11)

Minnesota Vikings (Week 12)

@ New York Giants (Week 13)

@ Dallas Cowboys (Week 15)

New York Giants (Week 16)

As you can see, the Washington Redskins won’t have much time to recover if they struggled early in the season as they will play against some of the best teams in the league week in and week out throughout the entire season.

The first six weeks and the last six weeks of the season will be the toughest by far for Donovan McNabb and company, but they did give us a taste of things to come in their first preseason game against the Buffalo Bills where they’ll Washington Redskins offense dominated all day long.

In his first drive in a Redskins uniform, Donovan McNabb threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Anthony Armstrong and looked very good in his new offense as he seemed to be comfortable with the Washington receiving corps.

Coming into this game, many people were doubtful about how well Donovan McNabb could play with an unproven receiving corps, but he faired pretty well as he completed 5 of 8 passes and finished with 58 yards and one passing touchdown.

Even though McNabb and Shanahan’s debut was all anyone could talk about in this preseason game, backup quarterback Rex Grossman seemed to steal the show as he played really well in the backup role by completing 11 of 18 passes and finishing with 140 yards and two passing touchdowns.

Obviously, with McNabb starting behind center, Grossman has no shot to winning the starting job, but with McNabb’s injury prone ways, the backup could potentially get some time under center.

All and all, the Washington Redskins were impressive to say the least as they got the win with a score of 42-17.
