Even if it was a preseason game, Bradford’s performance against the Minnesota Vikings will be dissected because he is the number one draft pick. Bradford will not start this season, that job falls on the mediocre shoulders of AJ Feely, but it’s always nice to catch a glimpse of one of the NFL’s most promising talents.
It should not come as a shocking surprise that the Rams have one of the weakest offensive lines in the league and against Minnesota it showed. Bradford was sacked four times despite attempting just 13 throws. Many will attribute this to the Rams’ weak offensive lines but the O-line doesn’t deserve the rest of the blame. As expected, Bradford was tentative and at times took too much time holding on to the ball. He looked spry enough to move around the pocket but was either sacked or still ended up on his butt. In fairness to the QB neophyte, when he did get the opportunity to throw he was accurate.

It looks that the Rams’ O-line will take some time to develop and with that obviously known, Bradford needs to learn how to get rid of the ball quickly. This will be a great opportunity for him to recognize blitzes faster and help him communicate with his receivers better. He will have a ton of time to learn the Rams’ playbook while watching from the sidelines.
Every time Bradford was tagged by the defense, you could feel the Rams’ front office cringe all the way from the box. And who could blame them? Bradford was in his first full contact game since having his shoulder surgically repaired. When asked about the shoulder Bradford simply shrugged it off, “I took a couple, landed on the shoulder,” Bradford said. “It’s not sore at all. We’ll see tomorrow how it feels, but right now it feels great.”
Bradford may improve his timing with his receivers but it won’t mean a thing if he keeps getting licked like he did against Minnesota.

Rookie QB’s always experience a tough first season, whether they play or sit. Bradford will be perfectly fine just ask sophomore QB Matt Stafford. Stafford looked like a completely different player in their preseason game against Pittsburgh. He was accurate and didn’t show any signs of the shoulder injury he suffered last season. Compare that to last season where he looked downright scared sometimes of oncoming blitzes.
Based on Stafford’s case, Bradford will develop into a solid QB next year. That’s if opposing defenses don’t rough him up too much before then.
