Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are one of the newest franchises to join the NFL, as they were established in early 2001 and finally joined and started playing in 2002. The team is part of the South Division and part of the AFC. The Texans are currently headquartered at and also play their home games in Reliant Stadium, which is in Houston Texas. Since the previous franchise that was there left and took their team colors with them, the Texans decided to go with Deep Steel Blue, Battle Red, and Liberty White as their new team colors. Their mascot is Toro, who is a lively bull that entertains the fans; believe it or not he is a Taurus, as he was “born” on April 21, 2001. The Texans have had a pretty short franchise history, but they have still managed to make their mark in such a short time.

Texans Brief Team History

The Houston Texans had a tough start to their NFL franchise career. When the previous team, the Houston Oilers and team owner Bud Adams, decided it was time for a move and took the team to Tennessee, where it would become known as the Tennessee Titans in 1997. This left Houston without a NFL team that would represent it. This is when Bob McNair decided that he wanted to bring another team back to Houston. The NFL committee had decided to award the 32nd expansion team to Los Angeles, but after a lot of insistence and money, McNair was finally able to get their approval in 1999.

Things moved quickly for the new franchise, as they wanted to get up and running the fastest possible. In 2000, they began construction of the future stadium that the Texans would play in, Reliant Stadium. When they were just starting out, the Texans decided to hire Dom Capers as head coach, as he had experience with leading expansion teams; he coached from 2001 until 2006. They later on changed coaches and currently have Gary Kubiak filling that position. Under Dom Capers, they did not do so well, as he left the Texans with a losing record. The team slowly improved after 2006, and was finally able to make their first playoff appearance in 2011. It has been a short history, but the team and franchise is looking to be a high ranked competitor.

Notable Texans Figures

With the franchise history being so short, the Texans do not really have that many notable people from the past, as most of the people they have started with, still remain with the team. Maybe some of the notable figures of the present will become notable figures of the past in the future.

Bob McNair, the man that made everything possible, is still one of the majority owners of the Houston Texans. It is thanks to him that Houston has such a great team again, and from the looks of it, they will be fierce competitors during the 2012 season. We hope McNair continues to have that same vision for the Texans that their new, large fan base has.

Andre Johnson was drafted during the first round of the 2003 NFL draft, bringing with him all of his skill and agility as a Wide Receiver. He is a very efficient receiver, being able to get long carries and catches from just a few receptions. He has had his ups and downs since he started, but it looks like he will be able to show all of his true potential during the 2012 season.

Arian Foster has been a Texan Running Back since he was drafted to the team in 2009. He didn’t get much playing time his rookie year, but after that he was able to show everyone just how good he is. It is rare to see a running back beating receivers for yards gained, but Foster so far during the 2012 season is beating his WR teammates. He is a very fast and agile runner, being able to exploit any weakness in the opponent’s defense.

J.J. Watt is fairly new to the Texans, being the 2012 season his second year playing professional football. He is a very well-rounded Defensive End, being able to read the plays and is strong and fast enough to get around his defenders in order to get to the quarterback. He has a good ability to sack the quarterback and disrupt the plays. He certainly has a bright future ahead of him.

Present Team Personnel

The majority owner of the Houston Texans franchise is Bob McNair, the man that started it all with 95% ownership. He was the first to voice his concern to the NFL and even put in $700 million in order to get the NFL’s approval to become the 32nd expansion team. He is very dedicated and seems to care greatly about the team and the city. The current head coach for the Texans is Gary Kubiak, who started in 2006 after the Texans had a devastating 2 – 14 record in 2005. Kubiak has managed to get the Texans back into winning record seasons and is currently making strides to become a playoff, and possibly a Super Bowl favorite during the 2012 season.
