NFL Monday Night Football Preview & Free Pick- Week 2

New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts

Pointspread: Indianapolis -7

Total Line: 47

The New York Jets and the Indianapolis Colts will close-out action in Week 2 of the new NFL season on Monday Night Football. All the action from Lucas Oil Stadium is set to get underway as 8:30 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

The Jets, under new head coach Todd Bowles, rolled to a 31-10 victory last Sunday in their season opener against Cleveland as three-point favorites at home. This Sunday should provide a much better indication as to which direction this team is headed this year. In typical Jets fashion even with a new head coach they relied on defense and a strong running game to get the job done.

Starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was efficient with a 179 yards passing and two touchdown throws, but the combination of Chris Ivory and Bilai Powell helped pace a rushing attack that gained 154 yards on the ground. Credit New York’s defense for its play, but it was facing Johnny Manziel at quarterback as opposed to going on the road to try and slow down the Colts’ Andrew Luck.

Indianapolis already has a sense of urgency coming into Monday night after getting pushed around by Buffalo last Sunday in a shocking 27-14 loss as a 2.5-point road favorite. Luck threw for 243 yards and two scores, but he only completed 53 percent of his 49 attempts while getting picked-off twice. Of more concern should be a running game that was held to just 64 total yards.

Given that this is still just Week 2 of the season, there is a strong possibility that New York is not as good as its winning score might indicate and that Indianapolis simply had a bad day. The Colts did lose wide receiver TY Hilton with a knee injury in Sunday’s loss, but there are still plenty of other solid targets for Luck to get the ball to in this offense.

New York is 4-7-2 against the spread in its last 13 road games and it is just 4-14 straight-up in its last 18 games on the road. The Colts are 10-2-1 ATS in their last 13 games at home and they are 13-6 SU in their last 19 home games against the Jets. Right now things are not as they appear heading into this matchup which points in the direction of Indianapolis bouncing back with a solid win at home that covers the touchdown spread.
